Cover Me
On April 13th, 2009, I wanted to be anywhere but at work. Eight years prior to that day my baby boy lost his 29 day battle with a terminal illness. When I walked into the office I was met with a heaviness in the air. One of the women in the office pulled me aside to inform me that the baby girl of a man in the office had died only a few days before his wife’s scheduled c-section. My heart instantly broke for them and I was reminded of one of the reasons I went through the tragedy of my son’s death. My experience was one that left me in the hands of a loving God who offers peace that we simply cannot understand. Most people feel that the loss of a child is the one thing they would not be able to recover from, but my experience proves the opposite. I learned that out of brokenness, as children of God, we can find healing and purpose. While there will always be questions without answers, it is possible to accept the tragedies of life and to use them to encourage those around us who face similar experiences.
The day after I learned of this precious little girl’s death, I sat down at a piano to practice for my VIRTUE audition; God had other plans. He began to move my heart with empathy and compassion for this family. While so many around them had no idea what to say or do, I had a pretty good idea. I was aquatinted with their pain and God wanted to use me to encourage and comfort them. “Cover Me” is the result of that divine appointment.

Verse 1:
Give me one good reason why
A beautiful baby girl should have to die
Before she meets....her daddy and her mamma
I’ll never understand
I’ll never understand
But I know that You are in control
And there are some things I just can’t know
But I know you love me
Even though I don’t understand
Even though I don’t understand
Chorus:
Cover me with your peace
Cover me with your peace
(That passes understanding)
Cover me with your peace
Cause I am broken
I am broken
Verse 2:
Give me one good reason why
Your only Son would choose to live and die just for...
Just for someone like me
I’ll never understand
I’ll never understand
But I do not know where I would be
If I didn’t have your arms to comfort me
Down here in the valley
Even though I don’t understand
Even though I don’t understand
Chorus:
Cover me with your peace
Cover me with your peace
(That passes understanding)
Cover me with your peace
Cause I am broken
Bridge:
I am broken
(Wrap Your arms around me)
I am broken
(Resting in Your peace now)
I am broken
(You are all I have now)
Chorus:
Cover me with your peace
Cover me with your peace
(That passes understanding)
Cover me with your peace
Cause I am broken
I am broken
God I am broken...
